The path of the Valley of the Abbeys in Abruzzo

The "La Valle delle Abbazie" project, coordinated by the ITACA Association, aims to promote and encourage religious tourism through the creation of a religious tourist itinerary that brings together the splendid abbeys and religious buildings present in the territory of the Union of municipalities "Colline del Medio Vomano" and partner municipalities, places of faith and prayer but also architectural and artistic masterpieces as well as monastic community centers that have played a decisive role in the economic development of this part of the territory.

Between the Adriatic Sea and the majesty of the Gran Sasso d'Italia, there is in fact a corner of Abruzzo that makes a fine show of itself with its Abbeys, testimony of a faith that comes from afar.

The itinerary is in fact marked by the Abbeys of:

  • Santa Maria di Propezzano
  • San Clemente al Vomano
  • San Salvatore
  • Santa Maria di Ronzano

They are stone giants that lead the way up to the Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell'Addolorata, at the foot of the Gran Sasso in the province of Teramo, one of the best known in Italy and in Europe (a recent ranking places it among the top fifteen most frequented by the world).

The ancient charm of these places offers unique suggestions in every season but following the calendar of traditional festivities is undoubtedly the best way to experience their most authentic nature.

To get an idea of the beauty of the Abbeys, we invite you to experience your journey with VIRTUAL TOURS watch the beautiful DOCUMENTARY by director Stefano Saverioni.
